A miniature airbrush needs to fit the paint, compressor and cleaning routine, not just a headline nozzle size. The Iwata Eclipse HP-CS and Badger Patriot 105 are both gravity-feed, dual-action airbrushes. The Patriot is not single-action, and it is not the separate Badger Anthem 155.

Two documented options

Airbrush Why consider it Check before buying
Iwata Eclipse HP-CS A general-purpose brush for basecoats, transitions and controlled shading Exact needle/nozzle configuration, hose connection and what the package includes
Badger Patriot 105 Another general-purpose gravity-feed option, particularly where Badger spares and servicing are accessible Model and nozzle version, hose adapter and local spare-part availability

The Iwata Eclipse instructions and Badger manufacturer product and support site are the starting points for model instructions and support. These are research-based buying choices, not a spray-pattern or durability test.

What dual-action means at the bench

Press the trigger for air and pull it back to admit paint. Learning those motions separately helps avoid a blob when starting a pass. Practice dots and lines on spare material before a miniature. A different trigger mechanism will not compensate for paint that has dried at the tip or an obstructed nozzle.

Do not buy a smaller nozzle merely because the models are small. Paint consistency, distance, trigger control and pressure all affect the result. Follow the paint maker’s thinning instructions and the airbrush manual; there is no single pressure or water ratio that works for every primer, metallic and ink.

Price the complete setup

Check whether a listing contains an airbrush alone, a hose, or a compressor bundle. Add the cost of compatible fittings, a regulated air supply, cleaning materials and the controls needed for the coating being sprayed. A cheap bare brush can cost more to make usable than a complete compatible package.

Before ordering, find replacement needles and nozzles for the exact model. A damaged needle is a different expense from a complete replacement brush. Do not assume Iwata and Badger hoses or internal components interchange.

Indoor spraying needs more than a mask label

An acrylic being water-based does not mean its spray should be inhaled. Read the coating’s safety data and use ventilation and respiratory protection appropriate to that material and task. Our respirator selection guide explains why a particle filter is not a universal answer for solvents or vapors.

When a normal brush is the better purchase

For one squad, a small workspace without suitable spraying controls, or mostly fine edge highlights, a few ordinary miniature brushes can be the more practical first purchase. An airbrush is most useful when the repeated basecoating and blending work justifies setup and cleaning time.
